Q: What is the quintessential Christine Lucas pastime? A: Shopping! Just kidding…well, sort of. I must go to the health food store at least twice a week. Q: So what's inside a Christine Lucas shopping bag? A: Organic grapefruits, organic lavender bath oil, even organic tampons. I am a health freak. I often to refer to myself as an "Urban Cruncher." Q: Air hockey or Frogger? A: Air hockey. My grandmother used to have one in her basement. My uncle used to beat me all the time and it made me very competitive. So whenever I see an air hockey table something emerges from inside of me and I have an urge to beat people. I play a mean game of air hockey. Q: Do you ever write your music while naked? A: I'm usually naked. Q: Really? Why? A: Why not? Q: What provides inspiration for your music? A: Most of the lyrics are very spiritual and positive and I've just drawn on my life experiences. A lot of bad things have happened…actually, I don't like to use the word bad…a lot of things have happened in my life that people don't usually handle that well, and I've somehow managed to turn them into positive growing experiences. I hope that people who listen to my lyrics and are going through hard times might be able to apply my lyrics to their own lives and be inspired. Q: What's your favorite song that you've written? A: Probably "Here For You," because when my dad was sick I spent a week with him after he got out of the hospital and that song was about what we went through…the feelings that experience evoked for me. To this day every time I hear that song I almost cry. Q: What else makes you cry? A: When I gain two pounds. Q: You're recording an album and your only choices for a backup singer are Rerun from What's Happening, Carson Daly and Ms. Pac Man, who would it be and why? A: Ms. Pac Man. Girl Power! …Although, Carson might have some pull to get my videos on TRL. Q: If you could work with anyone in the business today, who would it be and why? A: Lenny Kravitz. I've always liked him. Aside from that fact that he's incredibly talented and hot, he just seems like a cool guy. Even though my music is not quite the same as what he's doing, I feel like we would have a really cool collaboration. Besides, he owns a beautiful house in Miami on the water and I heard he has a sick studio there. I wouldn't mind spending a few weeks in that studio. Q: Where do you see yourself in two years musically? A: I see myself on a world tour promoting my platinum selling album. Since I was a child I've dreamt of playing in front of massive crowds. I absolutely love performing. I have to say…it's probably the main reason I do what I do. Q: I saw your appearance in Wild On Ibiza? How did that come to be? A: I was helping a friend out with a clubbing travel company promotion. I was the girl singing in the cave, scantily clad as usual. I worked out hard for two months for that trip for two hours a day. I was ripped. Thank god I have that on video! Q: How wild were you? A: Let just put it this way. We let E follow us around the clubs every night, but we had a no cameras after 2 am rule. Q: What happened after 2 am? A: I don't have a clear recollection, but for those who have been to Ibiza, you know what happens after 2 am. Q: You have a very sensual voice. Do ever listen to your own music during sex? A: No, but a few of my friends tell me they've made make-out CDs with my songs. It's kind of complimentary and frightening at the same time. Q: You have to sleep with a president. Who would it be? A: JFK, as long as he promised to bring Marilyn Monroe along. Q: What's up with Marilyn Monroe? A: My older sister had a biography of Marilyn Monroe…it was a really thick book and I was obsessed with it…I was just fascinated by her…there was something so strong about her…she stepped outside of what was normal and accepted. I felt like she was a pioneer for women, whether she knew it or not. Q: Are there any other women you like? A: I also have unusual obsessions with Britney Spears…its true…Angelina Jolie, and that Victoria Secret model, Adriana Lima…yikes! Q: Who were your major childhood influences? A: Heart, Pat Benatar, Madonna and Whitney Houston, believe it or not. Q: Who are your favorite female artists now? A: I still love, and will always, Madonna. Nelly Furtado has great energy and her music rocks and I love Dido's sound. Q: Can you give me a description of your sound? A: Very similar to the artists I just mentioned. I call it Electro-acoustic pop. It's electronic influenced, vibe, pop with acoustic guitars, ethereal vocals and a positive message. Q: What are your overall three favorite CDs? A: If I had to choose 3...I have so many…Danny Rampling - Love, Groove Dance Party [CD 1], Madonna - Ray of Light and Pat Benatar - Best Shots. Q: Cats or dogs? A: I have a fat ass cat. He's French. His name is Olivier. He also answers to Squishy," "Mushy," "Tushy," "Lives-a-Tush," "Oliva-Butt," "Oliva-Buttster," "Butt-boy," "Oliva-Love," "Livie" or just plain "Boy." He's the cutest thing. Q: Would you consider doing the singing voice of a cat in a Disney movie? A: Absolutely. I've actually always wanted to sing the theme song of a Disney film. I'm a little girl at heart. Q: After you hit it big, do you intend to give back to the community, or would you prefer to hoard all the riches for yourself? A: My high school had an incredible music department that put on a huge, very professional production every year. It was truly the best experience I could have ever gotten at that age. I'd like to put money into more programs like this. It gives kids something to do after school that gives them strength and confidence, and it keeps kids out of trouble. Q: Do you have a childhood nickname? A: Oh, yes … Teeny-Bug or just Teeny for short. Some people still call me that. I love it. Q: So Teeny, what's your life philosophy? A: Do unto others as you would have done to yourself…karma, baby! Q: What's the Christine Lucas motto? A: House music all night long…say what? |
